Dear Coburg Members,

As the road season draws to a close it is time to announce the details of the 2012 Road Championship. And, as it is the final Club Championship to be held for the year, it is a fitting time to hold both our presentation day to celebrate the year gone, and our AGM to plan for a great year ahead. The 20th of October is the big day – read on for more details and as always, do not hesitate contact us with any queries.

Road Championship

We are pleased to announce that this years’ Coburg CC Road Race Championship will determine the Elite, Junior and Masters Club Road Champions, for both men and women.
The race will start at 9.00am in Whittlesea at the Whittlesea Showgrounds. This year we are re-visiting the challenging course of 2010 where from the Showgrounds, members will ride under control to the top of the Humevale Road climb, to the race proper start line. The race follows an out-and-back course along Whittlesea-Yea Rd, and all races will finish back at the top of the Humevale climb for a flat finish.
The turn-around point for the Men’s race will be on the out-skirts of the Yea township. This means the Men’s race will take in three major climbs: 2 x Break O’Day and Flowerdale-Kinglake West. The race will be around 90km in length. The turn-around point for the Women’s race will be near Break O’Day – creating a shorter, but still challenging, course for the Women’s race. Juniors turn-around point will be just shy of Hazeldene.
Please help us in running the day as efficiently as possible by preregistering via this link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CGR6KHZ

Volunteers are essential to the running of this race, if you can help out, please contact the Club.

Annual General Meeting

The 2012 AGM will both reflect on the year gone, and prepare for the year ahead. It will be held at the Charles Street Clubroom from 2-3pm on Saturday the 20thOctober.

An important aspect of any AGM is to appoint the Club Officers for the coming year. As always, the Club is accepting nominations for the executive committee:

President

Vice-President

Secretary

Treasurer

This year there is also an emphasis on growing the sub-committee, with aim to involve more people in the running of the Club, and increasing the skill sets available. This means we are looking for people who would like to take on positions in:

Women’s Development– can you rally the troops?

Juniors Development– do you want to support the next generation of cyclists?

Social Media Officer – do you have a knack for Twitter and Facebook?

Race Committee – can you help us design the years’ race calendar?

Northern Combine Rep – have you got ideas on how to make next season bigger and better?

We know that these roles are all on volunteer time, and we encourage you to be involved in the Club as much or as little as you comfortably can. So if you have these skills or others, and enthusiasm that can contribute to the future of the Club, please get in touch with the Club via email or feel free to call and discuss your thoughts.

Club Presentations

The Club has had another successful year, and there is no better way to celebrate than enyoying a meal and presenting our Champions and best Club men with their hard-earned awards. The presentations will take in the road, track, time trial and crit Champions, as well as award the Club Rider of the year, as determined by the members, and the Club Member of the year, as determined by the committee. To nominate your preferred member for Rider of the Year, please use this link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JVXZ9WL

The presentations will be held at the Charles Street Clubroom from 3pm directly after the AGM, and we would love to see every ones families and friends to share in the celebrations. To assist with catering, please RSVP by October 18th: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JD5T8D2

Best Regards,

Abby Grave

President

Many thanks to Frank, Glynn, Trav and Franco for clearing the road.

27 riders took on the short, but trying climb, but thanks to a mechanical, only 26 finished. With a few key names missing in action, the aggregate standings have moved around, and there is a new leader of the Non-Aero category in Chris Zucchet. While he, Shane Miller and Rae Lesniowska look comfortable (but not untouchable) in their categories, it is exciting to note that none, one and two points separate 2nd and 3rd place in the Women’s, Non-Aero and Aero categories respectively.

Safe to say that the 4th and final round of the series when we re-visit the course run in round #2 will be hard fought, and with so many places up for grabs, it really will come down to the line.

Official Standings as at Round # 3:

At this week’s Coburg Crit, we will be trialling three new prizes.

In A Grade, we will be running an intermediate sprint. The sprint will take place in the second half of the race – actual timing will be determined based on the position of other bunches (ie we will be waiting until the main straight is free of other Grades to give A Grade a clear shot at the line). Riders should note that the bell for the sprint lap will be located on the back straight, just past the roundabout. The winner of the intermediate sprint will pocket $30. There are no second prizes.

In B and C Grades, a prize for the Most Aggressive Rider will be on offer. $20 will be awarded to the rider who is judged to be most attacking and best animates the race.

In D Grade, we will be offering a “Break Out Ride” award. $10 will be awarded to the rider who is judged to best show an outstanding or improved performance.

We hope to see you on Sat morning at National Blvd. Please note that to avoid delays to race start times, registrations will close at 9.50am.
